About LoremGen

LoremGen is a free placeholder text tool. It generates classic Lorem Ipsum by the paragraph, sentence, word or exact character count, in plain text, HTML or list formats, and offers three themed variants — startup, coffee and hipster — for mockups where the register of the filler matters.

Where the text comes from

The classic generator draws on the vocabulary of the traditional Lorem Ipsum passage, a scrambled excerpt of Cicero’s de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum (45 BC), which is in the public domain. The themed generators use word banks written specifically for this site; no other generator’s word lists or copy were used. The translation page quotes Cicero’s Latin and H. Rackham’s 1914 English translation, both public domain.

How it works

All generation happens locally in your browser with a small seeded random generator. An optional seed makes output reproducible — the same seed and settings always yield the same text — which is intended for teams who need identical placeholder copy across files. Nothing you type is sent anywhere; there is no account and no server-side processing.

Honest limits

Generated text imitates the shape of the classic passage; it is not the verbatim traditional text (that is on the classic text page). Character-count mode cuts text at exactly the requested length, which can slice the final word in half — that is the honest behaviour of a hard character limit. Placeholder text of any flavour should never be published as real content.
